Ministry of Public Security (Israel)

The Ministry of Public Security (Hebrew המשרד לביטחון הפנים ), and Department of Homeland Security, is an Israeli Ministry. The Ministry controls the Israeli police, Israeli prisons, and the fire department in Israel. The Minister of Public Safety (Hebrew שר לביטחון פנים, Sar LeVitahon PNIM ) is the political leader of the ministry. By 1995, this position was as Minister of Police (Hebrew שר המשטרה, Sar HaMishtara ) known. It should not be confused with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The first minister of police Bechor - Shalom Schitrit was a former police officer and was responsible for the Israeli declaration of independence in 1948 up to a month before his death in January 1967, worked in 14 governments and was the longest reigning minister. The item was removed under Menachem Begin was as this premier in 1977, but re-established in 1984 as Premier Shimon Peres was.
