Mitja Valenčič

Mitja Valenčič ( born 1 February 1978 in Cerklje na Gorenjskem ) is a former Slovenian skier. He specializes in the slalom discipline and launched by 2008 in the giant slalom.

Biography

In December 1994 Valenčič took part in his first FIS races, from December 1996 onwards then served in the European Cup. On January 5, 1997, he drove for the first time in a World Cup race, the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, however, came not in the standings. As 18 of the slalom in Kitzbuehel, he won the first World Cup points on 26 January 1998. The further career progression of Valenčič was marked by many failures and qualifications for second runs. The first top-10 result achieved Valenčič on 15 December 2003 with ninth place in the slalom at Madonna di Campiglio. Only four years later, on February 9, 2008, he reached in the slalom in Garmisch -Partenkirchen again a ninth place. The same result he achieved in Levi also on 16 November 2008.

In the season 2008/ 09, since he failed to boot up in the giant slalom only in slalom and, Valenčič was much less affected by precipitation as previously and reached the 24th place in the slalom World Cup. Previously, he had never been in the top 30. In the 2009/10 season he was able to further increase, reached on 6 January 2010 by finishing fourth in the slalom in Zagreb, his best World Cup result was 16th in slalom and the World Cup. As a result, its performance declined. 2010/11, he still managed a top- 10 ranking, 2011/12 he was three times in the top ten. In the next two winters he did not succeed in this. Valenčič took part in six World Cups; He achieved the best result in 2007 in Åre ninth of the giant slalom.
