Morton Everel Post

Morton Everel Mail ( * December 25, 1840 in Rochester, New York, † March 19, 1933 in Alhambra, California ) was an American politician. Between 1881 and 1885 he represented as a delegate the Wyoming Territory in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

Morton Post attended the public schools of his home. In 1860 he moved to Denver. There he went into the freight business. He transported goods between the Missouri River and the city of Denver. In 1864 he acquired the Montana Territory a rich gold mine, which soon earned him a considerable fortune. Later he sold the mine again at a profit.

Post became a member of the Democratic Party, whose Democratic National Convention he attended in 1864 as a delegate. In 1867, Morton moved into the post later Wyoming. He was 1870-1876 Member of the Administrative Commission ( County Commissioner) in Laramie County. In his new home, opened the first post office and general store. In addition, he joined both in banking and in animal husbandry. From 1878 to 1880 was a member of the territorial legislature Post of the Wyoming Territory.

Post in the U.S. Congress

In the congressional elections of 1880 Morton post was chosen as the successor of Stephen Wheeler Downey in the U.S. House of Representatives. Between March 4, 1881 and March 3, 1885, he was able to complete two terms in Congress. Since Wyoming, however, was at this time no state of the United States Post had no vote in Congress. In 1884 he abandoned a bid again.

After the end of his service in the Washington Post worked as a banker and rancher again. During an economic crisis in 1888, he lost a large part of his fortune. In 1890 he moved to Utah in 1895 to California. At the beginning of the 20th century, he was involved in the area around Alhambra in the fruit and wine growing. At that time he went in the real estate business. The gains achieved thereby aligns itself suffered in the crisis of 1888 losses to a minimum again and he again became a rich man. In 1916, he withdrew into retirement. Then he first lived in Los Angeles and then in Alhambra, where he died in 1933.
