Mount Dora is a city in Lake County in the U.S. state of Florida with 12,370 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Mount Dora is located on Lake Dora, adjacent to the cities of Tavares and Eustis and is located about 40 km northwest of Orlando.

History

The location in the center of Florida was first settled in 1874 by David M. Simpson with his wife and two children. 1880 named the postmaster Ross Tremain the place after his children Roy, Ella and Louis as Royellou. 1883 opened the two-story hotel The Alexander House with ten rooms. The average annual income was $ 45,104, while 14.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.25 % of the population spoke Spanish 6.00% and 0.75 % had a different mother tongue.
