Eustis is a city in Lake County in the U.S. state of Florida with 18,558 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
Eustis is located on the eastern shore of Lake Eustis and is adjacent to the cities of Tavares and Mount Dora. The town is located about 35 km northwest of Orlando.
Demographics
According to the 2010 census, the then 18,558 inhabitants distributed to 8,871 households. The population density was 859.2 inh. / Km ². 74.9 % of the population were white, 17.4% African American, 0.4% Native American and 1.2% Asian Americans. 3.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.4% in different ethnic groups. 11.9 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 34.8 % of all households lived in 30.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 65.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.43 persons and the average family size is 2.98 people.
25.8 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.5% were 20-39 years old, 24.9% were 40-59 years old and 26.6 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 42 years. 47.1 % of the population were male and 52.9 % female.
The average annual income was $ 45,170, while 14.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.50 % of the population spoke Spanish 6.44% and 1.06 % had a different mother tongue.
Traffic
The city is on U.S. Highway 441 ( SR 500 ) and the Florida State Roads 19 and 44 crosses. The nearest airport is Orlando Sanford International Airport (50 km east).
Crime
The crime rate in 2010 was 228 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There was a murder, five rapes, robberies twelve, 23 injuries, 138 burglaries, 476 thefts, 28 auto thefts and two arsons.
