Munjong of Joseon

Munjong (Korean: 문종 ) (* October 3, 1414 at Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul, † May 14 1452 in Gyeongbokgung, Seoul ) was the fifth King of the Joseon Dynasty ( 1392-1910 ) in Korea and son of the king Sejong the Great.

Life

Munjong was the eldest son of King Sejong. 1421 appointed by his father to the Crown Prince, he was named Hyang ( 향 ) known in the country.

Because of his father King Sejong poor health Munjong had already been adopted in the last years before his death, the business of government in parts. When his father died, then on May 18, 1450, he took over seamlessly into power. But his tenure was short-lived. Not even in the best of health, Munjong died after only two years and three months regency, leaving his son as heir to the throne Danjong at a tender age of 11 years in power.
