Province

Nantong (南通 市) is a prefecture -level city in China's Jiangsu Province at the mouth of the Yangtze River. It is an important center for the textile and food industries. Nantong has an area of ​​8544 km ² and about 7.7379 million inhabitants ( end of 2004).

Attractions

In Nantong is located on a peninsula in the Yangtze River, the Nantong Museum. It was opened in 1905 as the first modern museum in China. The original museum building is built in the American colonial style. For the centenary of 2005, an extension of the Chinese architect Wu Liangyong was opened. In Nantong is located in the Wenfeng Road No. 4 also the first textile museum in China, opened in October 1985. The original museum building dates from 1906.
