Nastia Liukin

Anastasia " Nastia " Liukin (* October 30, 1989 in Moscow Anastasia Valerevna Ljukina, Russian Анастасия Валерьевна Люкина ) is a Russian- American artistic gymnast.

Life

Nastia Liukin was born in Moscow in 1989. Her parents, who gymnast Anna Kotschnewa and Turner Valeri Liukin, emigrated in 1992 from the United States. Here opened Liukins father together with a partner in 1994 in Plano (Texas ), the World Olympics Gymnastics School Gymnastic Academy.

Due to the trainer activities of its parents Liukin spent small amounts of time in gyms. Her talent was therefore recognized and promoted, even though their parents turn a career faced skeptical early. Nevertheless, Liukin is coached by her father to this day in its turn school. In addition, it is supervised by the choreographer Natalya Mařákova.

First international appearances graduated Liukin at the 2002 Junior. Since 2005 she takes in senior competitions. Achievements

Liukin is multiple U.S. champion. In 2005 she was World Champion on the uneven bars and the balance beam and silver medalist at the bottom and in the individual all-around. At the 2006 World Championships she won silver in the team, as well as individually on the uneven bars. Winning the silver medal on the uneven bars she could repeat in 2007, she was also in that year, world champion in the team competition and on the balance beam.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Liukin won the silver medal in the team final with the U.S. team. In the individual all-around final, she referred Shawn Johnson and Yang Yilin on the second and third place and was Olympic champion. At the bottom it was enough for a bronze medal. On uneven bars Liukins exercise was indeed with the same score rated as the Chinese He Kexin, but due to a tie-break rule they only won silver. Without this rule, which was introduced for the Olympic Games, both gymnasts have won a gold medal. On the last day of competition Gymnastics competitions Liukin finally won her third Olympic silver medal on beam.

After the Olympics, Liukin began their athletic careers with the goal of continuing to participate in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. At the American Championships 2009 Liukin appeared only on balance beam and finished fifth. According to the American Championships Liukin said to want to take a break from the sport to pursue increased the demands of their sponsors as well as being able to devote volunteer work. Consequently, she was also a member of the U.S. team at the 2009 World Championships in London. After a comeback at the Visa Championships 2012, she has given her resignation. Since January 2013 she studied in New York.
