Nelidovo, Nelidovsky District, Tver Oblast

Nelidowo (Russian Нелидово ) is a town in Tver Oblast (Russia) with 22 896 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the south of Valdai Hills about 275 km southwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Tver on the Mesha, a left tributary of the Daugava.

Nelidowo the Oblast is administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The city lies on the opened on this section 1901 railway Moscow -Riga ( kilometer 333). To the north of the city leads the M9 highway Moscow - Welikije Luki - Latvian border ( more about Rezekne Riga ) over.

History

Nelidowo was created in 1900 during the construction of the railway line Moscow -Riga near the village known since 1701 Iotkino (also Jotkino ). Was named the place after the resident of this area since the 15th century noble family Nelidov, on whose lands was the railway line.

1949 was the place the municipal law.

Economy

Nelidowo is the center of the wood processing industry. In addition, there are farms of mechanical engineering ( eg for hydraulic presses and Torfabbaugeräte ), for plastics ( in belonging to Nelidov settlement Schachty ), the construction industry and the food industry.

Until the 1990s, brown coal was mined (see coat of arms ) in the area.
