Geographical location
The community lies in the Westerwald between cities victories (38 km north), Wetzlar (28 km east) and Limburg an der Lahn (19 km south). Neunkirchen is the southernmost place that belongs to the municipality Rennerod.

The place was first mentioned in 1232.
