Deer is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Rennerod.

Geographical location

The community lies in the Westerwald in the extreme north-east of Rhineland -Palatinate, right on the border with Hesse. The nearest large towns are wins ( 29 km north ), Wetzlar (28 km east) and Limbourg ( 29 km south ). In the local area is the largest part of the Krombachtalsperre whose dam is already in the field of the Hessian community Driedorf.

History

The place was first mentioned around the year 1300.

Parish council

The local council in deer consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The twelve seats in the municipal council are divided into two groups of voters. In the previous election in 2004, the council members were elected by majority vote.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: "In the shield is a split -bent capstan piece of blue and silver; a blue stylized half-timbered house front in gold; back in green next to each other two silver gear quarters, an upright golden spike, which covers two superimposed standing arcs ".

Culture and sights

The City Council of deer is a half-timbered house dating from the early 18th century with carved foliage ornaments to the post and the wooden door. In his first floor there is a Protestant prayer hall with benches and pulpit of in 1741. The Rev. Dr. Johann Heinrich Manderbach ( 1699-1767 ) had built it as a Latin school.

Several half-timbered houses are evidence of typical Westerwald Country Construction: The roof is pulled down low on only one or two pages. The contemporary single-family homes deer are based partly on this traditional construction.

By deer leads which opened in May 2008 Westerwaldsteig. Through this connection and new dining establishments in the historic half-timbered houses of the place experiences a tourist appreciation.

Traffic

  • Directly through the site, the B 255, which runs from Montabaur to Herborn runs.
  • The nearest motorway junction is Herborn on the A45 Dortmund - Hanau, about 14 kilometers away.
  • The nearest InterCityExpress stop is the railway station at Montabaur the high-speed line Cologne-Rhine/Main.
  • Deer had 1906-1959 in passenger and freight transport by 1967 direct rail connection through the route Herborn - Montabaur (Westerwald cross- train). Today runs on the old railway line to the part of a cycle, the old station deer is a house.
