Geography

Geographical location

The community lies in the Westerwald between Siegen and Limburg an der Lahn. Through the town flows the Great Nister.

Neighboring communities

Town is surrounded by the municipalities Niederroßbach in the north, Emmerichenhain in the East, Light -Schellenberg in the south and in the west Höhn.

History

1384, the village was first mentioned.

On March 1, 1987, the name of Neustadt in Neustadt / Westerwald has changed.

The local council in Neustadt / Westerwald consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: "In a gold diagonally left, blue wave beams; up ( with the left claw of the wave beams growing ) looking to left rotbewehrter, black eagle; below sechspeichiges, black water wheel with twelve blades ".

Explanation: The wave bar indicates the location of the village on the Great Nister. The black eagle in gold - the imperial eagle - symbolizing the church today corridor district forest meadow as former imperial forest. The mill-wheel stands for the two former mills to Neustadt, the grind for the mill district Neustadt- Bright -Schellenberg. The colors of gold and blue are the colors of coat of arms of Nassau ( golden lion in blue) and refer to the former territorial affiliation of the community.
