Geographical location

The community Zehnhausen is on the top of the basalt high Westerwald at an average altitude of about 530 m above sea level. NN. The place is right on the main road 54, Mainzer Straße, a medieval trade route. It comes from Mainz and leads to Siegen. The road had but little influence on the development of the town.

History

The place name with the suffix " -sen " suggests that the site at the time of the strongest Frankish colonization wave of the Westerwald in the 6th to 11th century has emerged.

Another source states that the name is derived from Zehnhausen Canossa. In the local dialect it is said to Zehnhausen: Cenesse = Canossa; ( Canhossa = Canhosa = Cenhusen = Zehnhausen ).

Zehnhausen heard since time immemorial to the parish Emmerichenhain and is characterized Protestant since the Reformation.

The first written mention dates back to 1335, as the place is called Zhenhusen.
