Ng (Arabic letter)

Nef is an Arabic letter that is part of the extended Arabic alphabet for writing of the Ottoman language. It was added in addition to the four Persian letters letters Pe, Czech, ZE and Gaf the Arabic basic alphabet to the velar n- sound ( in the turkologischen transcription denoted by ñ, IPA [ ŋ ] ) to write. The NEF will be written as a coffee, but with three points about it. It has no value. The letter was taken from the Ottoman in the Arab- based writings of the Central Asian Turkic languages, such as Kazakh, Turkmen, Kyrgyz, Uzbek and Uighur.

With the abolition of the Arabic alphabet in favor of the Latin in 1928 (and thus the transition from Ottoman to modern Turkish) N and thus the same letter as for the Ottoman Now was introduced for the NEF, as in the Istanbul dialect, which was used as a measure, between two sounds were not distinguished. The distinction between the two sounds ( velar ñ and " normal ", ie alvoeolarem n ) thus was lost in the written language, but in Anatolian dialects still exist.
