Nick George (basketball)
Nicholas James George ( born September 25, 1982 in Manchester, Greater Manchester ) is a British professional basketball player. After studying in the United States, George played professionally in Italy in particular. Most recently, he was until 2012 at the Lugano Tigers in Switzerland's national basketball league active. With the British national George took part in the European Championship finals in 2009.
Career
After George had been active for several youth and junior national teams of the English Basketball Association, he went in 2002 to study in the United States at the Virginia Commonwealth University, whose high school team Rams then played in the Colonial Athletic Association NCAA. Under coach Jeff Capel III reached George along with Domonic Jones after a second place in 2003, the Championship 2004 this Conference and qualified for national finals of the NCAA, in which one, however, against the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest University in the first round almost to a point retired difference. The following year, still managed a more - Conference runner-up along with Jamal Shuler, but not enough to qualify for the finals. After studying George did not able to advance in the most highly endowed U.S. professional league NBA and he signed in 2006 a contract with the Italian champions from Treviso. Here, however, he could not prevail and, after a good three months in January 2007 in the second Italian league Legadue the club Andrea Costa Imola. Here he was indeed significantly more play, but the club finished the season in second to last place in the table and the class could keep only thanks to the withdrawal of licenses from other clubs.
In the following season 2007/ 08 George played for the Spanish first division relegated CB Lucentum from Alicante, in the final table finished in second place in the Spanish second division LEB Oro and the re-emergence just missed in the ascension play-offs. The following season began with the French first division George BCM Gravelines on the English Channel, but where he remained only until mid-December 2008.
In December 2008, George moved back into the second Italian league. In Junior Libertas from Casale Monferrato, he was then on the end of the season also. After every fourth places at the final table you missed 2009 and 2010 against the respective winners of the promotion play -offs to qualify for the top class. After award of the 2012 Olympic Games in the British capital London, a British national had meanwhile been formed, the host should have automatic start right at the games. 2008, George was appointed to this selection and was able to qualify for a European Championship finals for the first time with her. In the European Championship finals in 2009 George was hardly used in the three games of the first round, all of which were lost to the eventual semi-finalists Slovenia, Spain and Serbia.
In the season 2010/11, George had to completely suspend because of knee problems, while his club Junior Casale succeeded in promotion to Serie A. In the season 2011/12 he ventured a comeback in the Italian second division climbers from Sant 'Antimo, he left after just nine appearances in championship games in January 2012. In March 2012, he joined the Swiss champion in Lugano Tigers in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino. With this club he could defend the championship and was named in the preliminary squad of the British Olympic team. After another injury, however, was his chance to participate in the Olympic Games there. In 2013, he was a " comeback " for the Giants from his native city of Manchester in the British Basketball League.
