Noel Davern

Michael Christopher Noel Davern ( born December 24, 1945 in Cashel, County Tipperary, † October 27, 2013 ) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

Biography

Davern, who was by profession a farmer and representative of the company, began his national political career as a candidate of the Fianna Fáil in 1969 with the first election for deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ). There he represented initially until 1981, the interests of the constituency of Tipperary South.

In 1979 he was also a member of the 1st European Parliament and belonged to this until 1984. In 1981, he renounced this reason a renewed candidacy for the House of Commons, but a candidate for this again only in 1987 after retiring from the European Parliament. Between 1987 and 2007 he represented the interests of the constituency again Tipperary South in the Dáil.

As part of a reshuffle Davern was appointed on 14 November 1991 by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Charles Haughey J. Minister of Education and held that office for almost three months to the end of Haugheys tenure on February 11, 1992.

In the cabinet of Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, he took on 8 July 1997 to 6 June 2002, the Office of Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, but belonged as such " junior ministers " not to the Cabinet. Most recently he was on 5 December 2002 to 29 April 2007 Chairman of the House Committee on Affairs of the Parliament members.

At the general election in 2007 he gave up for reelection and retired from the Dáil from.
