Northland Rugby Union

The Northland Rugby Football Union ( NRFU ) is the national rugby union Provincial Association of Northland Region in the North Island of New Zealand. The selection team of the Association in the National Championship Air New Zealand Cup is called Northland Taniwha and bears their home games at Okara Park in Whangarei from.

The association was founded in 1920 as North Auckland Rugby Union. It consists of 54 clubs who belong to one of seven sub- groups based on the size of the region. Northland was four times so far in possession of the Ranfurly Shield, in the years 1950, 1960, 1971 and 1978.

Players from Northland are eligible to play in the international Super Rugby League and are summoned by the Blues (1995 to 1998 by the Chiefs).
