Nové Mesto, Bratislava

Nové Mesto ( New Town German, Hungarian [ Pozsony - ] Újváros ) is located in a vineyard valleys, northern district of Bratislava.

Description and History

Before the 18th century, the area was used for agriculture and there was no compact settlement. The urbanization began in the 18th century from the two places that still have today the suffix " mýto " ( toll ): the Racianske mýto and Trnavské mýto.

District Outline

The district is divided into the following cadastral:

  • Nové Mesto (New Town ), area: 9.85 km ²
  • Vinohrady ( Vineyards ) Area: 27.63 km ²

  • Koliba (straw hut)
  • Kramáre ( Kramer or Kramer Berg)
  • Mierová Kolónia ( peace colony)

  • Kuchajda ( pastures or Kuhhaide )

Important facilities

In Nove Mesto neighborhood of Bratislava main train station is located. Furthermore, many sport facilities are located in the district, such as Zimný Štadión Ondreja Nepelu (ice ), Tehelné pole, Štadión Pasienky ( football stadium ) or Sibamac Arena ( tennis).
