Nuri Şahin Kazim [ ʃahin ] ( born September 5, 1988 in Lüdenscheid ) is a Turkish football player, who also has German nationality. He is under contract at Real Madrid and plays on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

Life

Sahin's parents had emigrated to Germany from Turkey before his birth and settled in the southern- Meinerzhagen. In 1988 he arrived in the nearby Lüdenscheid to the world, but grew up in Meinerzhagen, where he attended high school. Şahin is married to his cousin Tugba since 2007. On September 13, 2011, his son was born.

After winning the German championship in 2011 Şahin was awarded the German nationality at a reception in Dortmund's city hall.

Club career

Borussia Dortmund

At the age of four years Şahin joined the local club RSV Meinerzhagen. At twelve, he finally moved to the youth department of Borussia Dortmund.

After he was elected at the U-17 European Championship in 2005 as the best player of the tournament, some English clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United were interested in him. Arsene Wenger, coach of FC Arsenal, described him as the greatest talent under the age of 18 in Europe. Arsenal offered three million euros for the then 16 -year-olds, but Borussia Dortmund rejected this offer. In summer 2005, Şahin was transferred directly from the B- youth in the senior squad.
