Offendorf

Open village is a commune with 2183 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It is situated in the Upper Rhine Valley on the Rhine and thus on the German- French border. Open village is located about 20 kilometers north of Strasbourg and is a member of the Communauté de communes de l' Espace Rhénan. The village features a star-shaped road network. Not far from the village leads open since the early 70s, the Ill, which was extended through the barrage beyond the Rhine.

Economy

Open village is known for the domestic shipbuilding industry, which existed until 2006 and was family owned. Today, there still exists a museum ships.
