Ohio River Valley AVA

Ohio River Valley AVA is a since September 7, 1983 by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives recognized wine region in the U.S. states of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia.

Location

The common denominator of the vast area is the Ohio River and the surrounding areas. With a defined area of 6.734 million hectares it is the largest American Viticultural Area in the United States. The appellation it is distributed to the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. Despite this expansion, a subregion was derfiniert with the Kanawha River Valley AVA only.

Varieties

The majority of the vineyards with the hybrid vines Baco Noir, Marechal Foch, Seyval Blanc Vidal Blanc or are planted. The most popular noble grapes of the Vitis vinifera family are Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling.
