Reception

The reviewer Steven Huey of Allmusic wrote that the album had established the band as " one of the leading groups of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal". Although the group the " tight, controlled attack other bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden " 've owned that she was not interested in the " fantastic, threatening and sometimes creepy themes " of these groups. Instead, the album would offer a " collection of Hard Rock anthems for the working class ," came up with the "large glittering hooks of glam rock ". It may indeed lack the album on the " detailed production and pop- oriented songwriting " later releases, but it was " undoubtedly the hardest album" the band.

On 18 November 1983 was awarded a Gold Record On Through the Night by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ); six years later, on May 9, 1989, the award followed with platinum.
