Onay

Onay is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Onay is located at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, 10 km southeast of Gray and about 30 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the plane of Gray, on the edge of the Talniederung Tenise, at the western edge of the Bois de Grilley.

The area of ​​6.68 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the valleys of the Saone in the north and in the south Ognon. From east to west, the area is crossed by the Talniederung the Tenise, which provides for drainage Saône and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is flanked on both sides of the plateau to the west of the Monts de Gy expands and is on average 235 m. It is divided by the small valley of various short tributaries of Tenise. The plateau is composed of sediments of the Tertiary and Cretaceous, and is partly used for agriculture, partly it is passed by forest. On the hill north of the village is the highest elevation of Onay is achieved with 248 m. To the east of the municipality of soil in the Bois de Grilley ( to 245 m ) is sufficient. To the north it extends into the grove of the Forêt des Hauts Bois (Wald Gray ) and up into the headwaters of the Dhuys, a left-hand side of Bach's Morthe.

Neighboring communities of Onay are Velesmes - Échevanne in the north, Velloreille -lès- Choye in the east, and Cugney Venère in the south and Champtonnay and Cresancey in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Onay belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The existence of the rule Onay is occupied since 1297, when it was owned by Clémence de Vienne. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

About the Tenise performs a stone bridge, which was built in the 17th century.

Population

With 72 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Onay one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, the population moved in the range 54-97 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Onay was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Velesmes - Échevanne after Champtonnay. Further road links exist with Venère and Cugney.
