Örnsköldsvik
Örnsköldsvik [ œɳʃœldsvi ː k] is a town in the Swedish province Västernorrland County and the historic Ångermanland.
It lies on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia between Härnösand and Umeå and is the capital of the municipality of the same name.
History
Örnsköldsvik was founded in 1842. Planned and built the city of Örnsköldsvik was from 1885 as the economic center Ångermanlands because the then provincial government viewed it as advantageous to have a major trading center on the coast. 1893, the former market town ( Linköping ) became a town.
The city is named after the former Landshövding by Abraham Örnsköld, the 1762-1769 advanced cultivation methods in agriculture, the growing of potatoes in Ångermanland introduced over the years. She is one of the few cities in Sweden which was named after a non-royal person. The name suffix - vik points to the nearby estuary of the River Moälven in the bay at Örnsköldsvik.
1976 took place the first Paralympic Winter Games, 2008, the Curling European Championship and 2014, the fourth qualifying round of Melodifestivalen 2014 in Örnsköldsvik.
Economy
Örnsköldsvik is an industrial city. In addition to wood processing and paper industry is the largest employer in the engineering area. One of the most famous is the defense contractor BAE Systems Hagglunds. The company Fjällräven, a manufacturer of outdoor equipment and functional clothing, has its headquarters here.

Sports
The most popular sport in the city 's ice hockey. MODO Hockey played in the Elitserien, the highest league in Sweden. 1978/1979 and 2006/2007 they won the Swedish championship. MODO carries its home games in the Fjällräven Center. The footballer Friska Viljor FC played in the 2004 season for a year in the Superettan, the second highest league in Sweden. Currently we are in the fourth division Div. II Norrland on the ball in Örnsköldsvik is the Paradis Kullen a ski jump on the annual national and international competitions are bound.
