Os Østerdalen is a municipality in Hedmark Norway Fylke near the mountain town of Røros.
Geography and Economics
Os is the northernmost municipality in Hedmark Fylke and is bordered to the northwest by the municipality Tynset, in the northeast of Røros (county Sør -Trøndelag ), to the southeast by Engerdal and on the southwest by Tolga. The municipality comprises the transversely to Glomma lying valleys Vangrøftdalen, Nøradalen and Tufsindalen, with a small stretch of coastline of the lake Femund. Apart from the main town of Os sentrum, which is 14 km from the hill town of Røros Glomma, the community still consists of the villages Dalsbygda, Narjordet, Narbuvoll and Tufsingdalen.
The 1039 km ² of its territory is 63% mountains. The rest is dominated by spruce and birch forests and grasslands. Only 3% are cultivated for agriculture. The tree line here is approximately 900 moh .. With 25 % of the workforce, agriculture is the most important industry dar. Today around 160 farms are mainly cultivated for livestock and milk production.
The highest mountains are Sålåkinna (1594 m) and Håmmålsfjellet (1543 m). The area around the mountain Forollhogna ( 1332 m ) in the west of the commune is a national park.
History
Begins As in the surrounding communities here the historiography essentially recording the mine operation in Røros 1644th The mines and the smelters of the nearby mountain town needed wood and coal. On January 1, 1966, the municipalities Tolga and Os became the new Tolga -Os municipality merged ( with a population of 2,015 ) 10 years later in the municipalities Tolga and Os to be shared. Traffic
The train station of Os is located on the Røros railway, the railway line from Elverum to Røros. The national highway number 30 performs Os. The Røros Airport is only 14 km away.
Landmarks, tourism
In Narjordet can visit the listed building yard Oddentunet from the 19th century. 1747 down here Rasmus Knutsen Bager from Røros with his family. The present main building dates from the early years of the 19th century, when the old house was extended. It is characterized by its rich carvings and paintings (the latter from the years 1822-1826 ).

In the near Os sentrum there is the downhill ski center Hummelfjell Alpinanlegg with three ski lifts, children's ski lift and several descents, and a toboggan run. In the summer, good to very good fishing facilities are available.
