Ottendorf- Okrilla is a municipality in the district of Bautzen in Saxony. With nearly 10,000 inhabitants Ottendorf- Okrilla is the sixth largest municipality of the district and its largest municipality without a town.

Geography

Geographical location

Ottendorf- Okrilla located in the extreme west of the district of Bautzen, and is about 20 km north-east from the city center of Dresden direction. In the north, bordering the municipality to the Laußnitzer Heath, to the south by the Great Röder. The north - south extent of the municipality is approximately 6 kilometers east- west extension of about 7 kilometers. It has an area of ​​2588 hectares, of which 158 ha are used for commercial purposes.

History

History

Ottendorf was mentioned in an article under the Diocese of Margrave Frederick II the Serious in 1346 for the first time. However, the certificate is not found anymore.

At the beginning of the period of National Socialism established in March 1933 SA men in front of the inn "Zum Weissen Ross " a stake and tortured there, arrested opponents of the regime. The physically handicapped communist Josef Hannemann later died of the ill-treatment suffered thereby. In GDR times Radeberger Straße 12 was affixed a plaque for him at the house. Also used as a cultural center building bearing his name, until both were eliminated after 1990. As part of the Saxon village of territorial reforms in the 90s Hermsdorf and Medingen were respectively attached on the basis of voluntary agreements on 1 January 1994 Grünberg and on 1 January 1999.

Incorporations

Already on October 24, 1911 merged municipalities Ottendorf b. Medingen and Moritz village to Ottendorf- Moritz Dorf. 1920 Cunnersdorf was b. Medingen incorporated into the municipality Ottendorf- Moritz Dorf, exactly one year later, Klein Okrilla. Finally, in 1921 the United Okrilla was incorporated on July 1, and the new community was renamed at the same time in Ottendorf- Okrilla. When incorporation is about 4500 counted in the census on June 16, 1925 already 4753 inhabitants.

The last mayor elections were held on 10 March 2013. Incumbent Michael Lang forest (proposed by Linke, FDP and SPD) sat down with 66.5 % of the vote against challenger by Mirko Thomas ( CDU). The turnout was 59.5 %.

Economy and infrastructure

In Ottendorf- Okrilla there next to the parcel center of Deutsche Post AG in about 700 farms about 6,500 jobs. In GDR times, was on the site a large stamping plant for plastic parts.

The municipality has three primary schools (one in Hermsdorf, one in Medingen ) and a high school.

Remarkable

On March 4, 1959 at 13:51 clock fell 5.70 km of the runway of the airport of Dresden near Ottendorf- Okrilla in his second test flight from the first and only self-developed by the East German aircraft of type 152/V1, license plate DM- ZYA. All four crew members died.

In Ottendorf- Okrilla is one of the rare Zwölfeckhäuser, an example of the GDR architecture of the 1970s.
