Pete Rock & CL Smooth

Pete Rock & C. L. Smooth were an American hip-hop crew from Mount Vernon, New York. It consisted of the DJ, producer and rapper Pete Rock ( born June 21, 1970, Bronx, New York City; civil Peter Phillips) and rapper CL Smooth ( born October 8, 1968 New Rochelle, New York; civil Corey Penn ). From 1991-1995 the duo was together with Elektra Records. They were known for jazzy samples of rock and the soft flow of Penn.

History

The musical career of the duo started in 1991 with the EP All Souled Out. This could be successful enough to settle the label Elektra Records to convince the duo to record their debut album Mecca & Soul Brother fund. The published in 1992 Mecca & Soul Brother is now regarded as classics of jazz - rap. Published in 1994, Pete Rock & C. L. Smooth their second album, The Main Ingredient. As Mecca & Soul Brother, it was still quite positive but added by the hip -hop scene as critics could not achieve high sales.

1995 separated the duo. While Pete Rock, which is considered by its stand-out production on the three releases of the duo as one of the best hip -hop producers, on for other artists (such as Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots ) worked to CL drew Smooth back from the music business.

Published in 1998, Pete Rock his first solo album Soul Survivor for which he won many famous rapper for guest appearances. In addition to songs with Raekwon, Ghostface, Method Man and Big Pun CL was also Smooth represented with Da Two on the album. After C. L. Was heard Smooth on further production of Pete Rock were rumors about a reunion of the duo that were fueled by a joint tour even further. Both artists denied but in several interviews a common comeback.

Published in 2006, C. L. Smooth with his solo album American Me his first long player since 1994 published The Main Ingredient.
