Peter Stoeger ( born April 11, 1966 in Vienna) is an Austrian football coach and former football player. Since the beginning of the 2013/14 season he is the coach of the German second division club FC Cologne 1.

Career

Player

About the FavAC, Steyr and Vienna, the then 22 -year-old Stoeger came to Austria Wien. He was obliged to replace midfielder Herbert Prohaska, who declared his resignation in 1989. With the Vienna violets Stoeger experienced its most successful years as a player. With three league titles and three Cupsiegen he had to have a proud record in six seasons. His first game for the Austrian national team, he completed on February 5, 1988 against Switzerland ( 1:2 result ). Overall Stoeger wore the Austrian jersey 65 times, where he scored 15 goals. Even in the World Cup finals in France in 1998, he belonged to the squad (2 inserts).

After a Bundesliga season with FC Tirol (1994/1995) Stoeger moved to arch-rival of Austria, the SK Rapid Wien. In his first season he succeeded with the Hütteldorfern the title. In 1996 he reached with Rapid also still the entry into the European Cup Winners' Cup final.

After Stoeger had finished his playing career in the summer of 2004, he received an offer from SC Untersiebenbrunn to work as a manager. The big surprise came in May 2005: Peter Stoeger and Frenkie Schinkel, previously Scout Austria Amateurs, replaced the coach duo Günter Kronsteiner and Lars Søndergaard. After only four weeks of work, the Austria won under Stoeger / Schinkel's the cup final against Rapid 3-1 - Stögers first title as a coach. In the fall of 2006, he was suspended along with Schinkel due to the disastrous performance of the team during this period (among the last place in the table ). In June 2007 he returned to Vienna and was, until June 2010 he was sports director. From autumn 2007 to April 2010, Stoeger was in a dual role trainer and also celebrated in June 2009 promotion to the second highest league. Frenkie Schinkel succeeded him as Vienna coach for the last games of the season.

Then Stoeger joined the club on a yearly basis. As of November 2010, he was coach of the Grazer AK. In June 2011, his running contract with GAK has been resolved amicably, so that he could perceive an offer from the Austrian Bundesliga side SC Wiener Neustadt as a coach and sporting director. A year later, he negotiated even the cancellation of the contract in order to compete in the Vienna Austria with a contract for 2 years the succession of Ivica Vastić.
