Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brendan Brosnan, OBE ( born May 16, 1953 in Drogheda ) is an Irish actor and film producer. He became famous as the fifth actor of James Bond, which he embodied in the 1980s with the TV series Remington Steele and from 1994 to 2002 in four movies.

Life

Brosnan was born in Drogheda, Ireland in Saint Mary 's Hospital. He is the only child of Thomas Brosnan, a carpenter, and May Smith ( born 1934). He lived for 12 years in Navan and some have referred to this place as his home town. After the divorce of his parents Brosnan's mother moved to London to work as a nurse. From this point on, at the age of four years, he lived with his grandparents, Philip and Kathleen Smith. After the death of his grandparents, he first lived with his aunt and uncle, and later with other relatives. Brosnan left Ireland on 12 August 1964 and moved in with his mother and her new husband, a British veteran of World War II, William Carmichael in the Scottish village of Longniddry. Brosnan accepted his mother's new husband quickly as a father figure. At the age of eleven years, Carmichael showed him the first time a James Bond film, Goldfinger. Later he went to the Elliott School, a middle school in Putney ( London).

After leaving school at 16, he worked as a painter and began training at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. At a workshop at the Oval House Theatre in 1969, he saw a fire-eater, and he decided to also learn the fire swallowing. A circus employee looked at him as a street performer and hired him for three years. From 1973 he studied at the Drama Centre London Theatre Studies. To finance his education, he worked part-time as an assistant stage manager at the Royal Theatre.

In the same year, the playwright Tennessee Williams became aware of Brosnan and occupied him for the world premiere of his play " Red Devil Battery Sign". It was followed by appearances in " Filumina " and "Wait Until Dark " and smaller extras jobs in television. 1981 Brosnan played the male lead role in the TV miniseries The Manions in America.

In 1982 he succeeded to the detective series Remington Steele international breakthrough. In 1986 the production was (91 episodes) set after four seasons, as there had been problems with the producers and also with Brosnan's partner Stephanie Zimbalist. At the same time, the producer Albert Broccoli was on the search for a successor to Roger Moore as James Bond actor. Brosnan, who was offered as one of the first role, but had to decline because he was at the beginning of turning the living daylights still in Remington Steele signed and the producers still wanted him for another season five now. In addition, broccoli had Lewis Collins as a replacement in mind. That finally only six episodes were filmed from this fifth season and he thus James Bond would even then be able to play, led to the final split with the Remington Steele producers. In the meantime he had become an international star with movies like The Fourth Protocol, The Deceiver and Mr. Johnson. In 1992 and 1993 he also had commercial success with The Lawnmower Man and the comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. In 1994, Brosnan still the role of secret agent James Bond. GoldenEye grossed over $ 350 million and was the most successful film so far this series. Followed Tomorrow never dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough ( 1999) and Die Another Day (2002 ). In the German synchronization Frank Glaubrecht is his default voice. In the television miniseries Around the World in 80 days, he was voiced by Lutz Mackensy.

Family

1987 ill Brosnan's wife Cassandra Harris, with whom he had been married since 1980, of cancer. After her death in 1991 Brosnan established a foundation for cancer research. His marriage to Harris Brosnan has a son; also he adopted her two children from her first marriage. Daughter Charlotte Emily died on June 28, 2013 at age 41 also of ovarian cancer. Cassandra Harris played himself in a Bond film a supporting role, namely in Your Eyes from 1981.

Since 2001, Brosnan is married to journalist Keely Shaye Smith, with whom he has two children. Together with her, he is strongly committed to environmental protection, which earned him, among other things, 2007, the Golden Camera. He is also a member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and supports the organization active.
