Prince of Wales Trophy

The Prince of Wales Trophy is an ice hockey trophy, which is awarded to the National Hockey League since 1992 annually to the team that wins (and thus rises in the Stanley Cup finals), the Conference of the Eastern Conference finals. It was (later Edward VIII ) donated in 1924 by the then Prince of Wales. The counterpart to this, the winner is the winner of the Western Conference, the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl.

Due to various structural changes and name changes within the NHL divisions and Conferences also changed the recipient of this trophy more than once:

  • From 1924: the best team of the basic passage of the American Division
  • From 1939: the best team of the base passage ( from this season there was only one more Division )
  • 1968: Best team of the basic passage of the newly created East Division
  • 1975: Best team of the basic passage of Wales Conference
  • From 1982: Playoff winner of the Wales Conference
  • From 1992: Playoff winner of the Eastern Conference

Record holders are the Montreal Canadiens, which this trophy already able to secure 25 times ( most recently in 1993 ). Most successful U.S. team, the Boston Bruins. They were able to secure the trophy 16 times and are the current holders of this. The Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders and the Philadelphia Flyers won both the Prince of Wales Trophy, as well as the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl.
