Princeton is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) in Mille Lacs and Sherburne County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, Princeton had 4698 inhabitants.

Geography

Princeton is located in northeastern Minnesota's Center at the Rum River, a left tributary of the upper Mississippi. The geographical coordinates are 45 ° 34'12 " north latitude and 93 ° 34'54 " west longitude. The city covers 13.42 square kilometers, of which 0.57 square kilometers is water area.

History

1847 White first came to the area around the present town of Princeton and discovered extensive pine forests. Shortly thereafter, the extraction of timber and its processing began.

1849 the first building was erected on the present area, which served as a resting place. 1854 another building was built and became the home of A. B. Damon, the first permanent settlers of the place.

In 1855 the Princeton was created schedule as a settlement. It was named after entrepreneur John S. Prince. 1856 a sawmill and a blacksmith shop was built and opened a post office. In the same year a hotel happened.
