Pringy (Haute-Savoie)

Pringy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Pringy is located at 500 m above sea level. M., about five kilometers north of the town of Annecy (air line). The village extends slightly increased on the northern edge of the basin from Annecy in the foothills of the Alps, on the Talniederung of Fier, in Genevois.

The area of ​​8.50 square kilometers municipal area includes a portion of the basin of Annecy. The southern boundary runs along the Fier as it flows from east to west through the valley. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward across the plateau of Pringy up to the height of Saint -Martin- Bellevue. To the northwest, the area extends over the valley system of Viéran to the heights southeast of La Mandallaz. On the wooded ridge of this mountain range is 860 m above sea level. Neighboring communities of Pringy are Cuvat and Saint -Martin -Bellevue in the north, the east Argonay, Annecy -le- Vieux in the south and Metz -Tessy, Épagny and La Balme -de- Sillingy in the West.

History

The territory of Pringy was settled very early. Finds were discovered from different eras, such as a stone ax from the Neolithic period, two axes from the Bronze Age, a grave from the Iron Age as well as numerous small finds from the Roman period. Already in 867 the village was first mentioned in records under the name Primiacus. The place name is derived from the Gallo-Roman personal name Primius and means something like estate of Primius.

Among the Counts of Geneva Pringy belonged to Kastlanei Annecy. In the early 15th century, it came with the Genevois to Savoy and henceforth shared its fate. To a field change occurred in 1973, when the previously independent community Ferrieres was incorporated into Pringy.

Attractions

From the 19th century comes the neo-Gothic village church of Pringy. In Ferrieres is a chapel from the 17th century. Of the secular buildings are the Château de Monthoux ( from the 13th century, remodeled in the 19th century) in a beautiful park as well as the Château de Promery (originally from the 14th century, altered in the early 17th century) to mention.

With 4031 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Pringy belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute-Savoie region.
