The Jeld -Wen Field is a multi-purpose stadium in the U.S. Portland, Oregon. It was opened in 1926 under the stage name of Multnomah and renovated in 1956, 1982, 2001. From 2010 to 2011, the stadium was converted from a baseball field to a football and American football stadium. So the games of the Portland State Vikings will continue to take place there. The stadium currently has 20 438 seats for spectators. The current naming rights guaranteed in 2011, the company Jeld -Wen, a manufacturer of windows and doors.

Geographical Location

The stadium is located between the Southwest Morrison Street, Southwest 18th Avenue, the Athletic Club building and the Southwest Salmon Street and Southwest 20th Avenue.

Transport links

Interstate 405 passes near the stadium, and is therefore also called locally Stadium Freeway. Opposite the PGE Park is a so-called MAX Light Rail Station which is a station for trams.

History

The stadium was built clubs 1925/1926 on behalf of the prestigious Multnomah Athletic. Since 1893 there have been on this land sports pitches. It was then known primarily for organizing there Greyhounds during the Great Depression ( Great Depression ). In the 1950s, the Portland Beavers marched into the stadium. Before playing the baseball team in the Vaughn Street Park, but this was closed.

In the 1960s, the college teams of the University of Oregon and Oregon State University to use the stadium as a competition venue. The teams wore there, the games that could not take place on their campuses because of the audience Andrangs. At this time, the capacity of the Multnomah Stadium was 35,000 spectators, the largest at that time football stadium in Oregon.

On September 2, 1957 Elvis Presley was in Multnomah stage one of his first open-air concerts. More than 14,000 spectators watched the concert accompanied by mass hysteria.

From 1973 to 1977 played the baseball team Portland Mavericks in the stadium and from 1995 to 2000, the Portland Rockies. 1972-1982 carried the Portland Timbers their North American Soccer League games at the stadium from. American football was also played here. The stadium was home of the Portland Breakers of the USFL and Portland Storm, which from 1973 to 1975 played in the World Football League.

In 1977, the now unnamed in Civic Stadium Stadium venue of the NASL Soccer Bowl the season 1977. Here New York Cosmos hit the Seattle Sounders. This game was also the last game for Pelé completed the Cosmos.

As of 2011, the Jeld -Wen Field scene of the home games of the Major League Soccer franchises of the Portland Timbers.

Modernization and conversion

The Jeld -Wen Field was renovated in 2001. The conversion cost 38.5 million dollars and included new VIP rooms and a modernization of seats. The music system was brought up to date. It was mounted for nostalgic reasons an old baseball scoreboard.

As of 2011, provides Portland own Major League Soccer team. For this reason, the city approved on 31 July 2009 an additional 31 million U.S. dollars to the stadium to further modernize and increase the capacity version. The PGE Park to be used from this point mainly for soccer and American football games. Construction began in September 2010 and were completed by the start of the season 2011. On April 14, 2011, Timbers wore their first home game out there.

Use

The stadium is currently used for soccer and American football games. Until September 6, 2010 there played the minor league baseball team in Portland Beavers. The Portland Timbers, most recently in the USSF Division 2 Professional League play, there wore their home games. The football teams from Portland State University and the Central Catholic High School are located in the Jeld-Wen Field also.

As of 2011, the Jeld -Wen Field home of MLS franchises Portland Timbers.

The PGE Park was also the venue during the World Cup of Women in 1999 and 2003. 2003 took place there both semi-finals.

On 15 July 2009 there was also the venue of the Triple -A All-Star Game, which takes place every year between the two minor baseball leagues Triple A International League and Pacific Coast League. 16,657 spectators watched the game, which meant the highest number of viewers since 1991.
