Raddon-et-Chapendu

Raddon -et- Chapendu is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Raddon -et- Chapendu situated at an altitude of 346 m above sea level, 7 km east-northeast of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 35 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, in the western foothills of the Vosges, in the Talniederung of Breuchin, at the entrance to the valley of Raddon.

The area of ​​12.50 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau landscape criss-crossed by valleys on the western edge of the Vosges. The southern border is the Alluvialniederung of Breuchin, but extends only a few places down to the river. The flood plain is on average 330 m and has a width of approximately one kilometer. In Raddon flows from the north side of the valley of the brook of the same name. East of Raddon Valley reaches the bottom of the hillside community of Grand Ban up ( to 480 m).

From the lowlands of Breuchin, the municipality's area extends northward over a thickly forested steep slope down to the adjacent plateaus of Chapendu that are mainly passed with forest ( Forêt de Raddon ). In between there are some clearings. With 497 meters, the highest elevation of Raddon -et- Chapendu is achieved throughout the Northeast. The northern boundary marks the little valley of Roge, a tributary of the Lanterne. The entire municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

Neighboring communities of Raddon -et- Chapendu are Fougerolles and Saint- Bresson to the north, Amage in the east, the south and Breuchotte Froideconche in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Raddon in 1258 under the name Randon. In the Middle Ages Raddon and Chapendu belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. 1424 were the inhabitants awarded certain liberties. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since the time of the French Revolution Raddon and Chapendu form a double community. During the 19th century, Raddon developed into a location for business and industry (mills, an oil mill and paper mill, quarrying, textile industry). Today Raddon -et- Chapendu is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs.

Attractions

The village church of Raddon was built in the 19th century by the architect Grandmougin and has a classical-style façade ( sandstone ). In-room amenities include the altar from the 18th century paneling in the chancel and a Madonna statue from the 17th century. In the vicinity of Raddon are several Calvaires.

Population

With 945 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Raddon -et- Chapendu belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute- Saône. The previous high with respect to the number of inhabitants reached Raddon -et- Chapendu in the period around 1910 with around 1230 inhabitants. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century, only relatively small variations were recorded between 1950 and 2000. Since then, a slight population growth was observed again.

Economy and infrastructure

Raddon -et- Chapendu made ​​early on by the development of a marked industrial and commercial location. Today there are various companies of small and medium enterprises, mainly in the telecommunications, woodworking and precision engineering. In recent decades, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the region Luxeuil.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Luxeuil -les- Bains to Rupt -sur -Moselle. Further road links exist with Fougerolles, Saint- Bresson and Magnivray. The nearest railway station is located in Luxeuil -les- Bains.
