Red Sea (state)

Al -Bahr al - ahmar (Arabic البحر الأحمر German Red Sea ) is a state in Sudan.

It has an area of 218,887 km ² and about 1.4 million inhabitants. Its capital and the fourth largest city in Sudan Port Sudan.

Geography

In the East, al -Bahr al borders Red Sea to the Red Sea, after which the state is named. Then inland followed by several mountain ranges from north to south ( Jibal al -Bahr al - ahmar ) lie between those arid plains. In the northwest, the Nubian Desert adjoins.

In the northeast is the disputed between Sudan and Egypt Hala'ib Triangle.

History

From 1919 to 1973, the territory of today's state of al -Bahr al - ahmar belonged to the province of Kassala. 1973 al -Bahr al Red Sea was split off as a province within the limits of today's state of the province of Kassala. From 1991 to 1994, the area belonged again to the newly created state of Ash- Sharqiyah, the possible within the limits of the province Kasssala 1919-1973.
