Views

Dialectic of Enlightenment

A key variable in the thinking of Marx, the term " freedom " of the back is also found in his coat of arms. Marx understands her the freedom of the people of the Christian anthropology. The man in the image of God is self stand in relation. This is nothing more than the inviolable dignity of the human being, about which no one else may have for Marx self stand. From relation he speaks, because he - according to the Christian image of humanity - Me and You and We as fundamentally related to each other and does not consider possible for different. Man is free because God as the creator anspreche him and say: Thou shalt live. Marx acknowledges that in the " early stages of their articulation (...) human rights aggressively rejected by the Church " and were dismissed as " unbridled freedom teachings". He also refers to the Encyclical Pacem in Terris of 1963, " with which the Church of respect for human rights train broke. " The modern concept of freedom concerning Marx formulated three positions: 1) he would be no turning back in an old world; 2) the clarification do not answer to what should be the content of freedom. Marx calls the project of a dialectic of the Enlightenment, an enlightened enlightenment; 3) In the center of this project, the man and his dignity must stand, which is always in danger in the world of business.

The role of the church should not be those of the Moral producer. You should rather preach the gospel, which would provide access to God the people and proclaim a reality that is greater than man and still take care of this. In almost all statements about economic policy or social and ethical issues in Marx comes to light that the freedom of a people of God herrühre and is therefore non-negotiable. Even in economic policy must apply: The economy is made for man, not vice versa.

Reinhard Marx is co-author of its 1997 common social word of the churches. The paper emphasizes the priority of labor over capital; even if it emphasizes the personal responsibility of the individual, it was at that time as a criticism, as the Süddeutsche Zeitung, seen at the social policies of the government of Helmut Kohl.

Teaching

As a regionally competent bishop, he suspended in 2003 by the Ecumenical Church Congress in Berlin emeritus professor of theology Gotthold Hasenhüttl from the priesthood because he had interzelebriert together during the Ecumenical Church Congress in an ecumenical communion service against an immediately previously repeated papal ban. The suspension was confirmed in 2004 by the Vatican. In the same year Marx denied the Tübingen ethicist Regina Quinn Ammicht the nihil obstat for teaching at the University of Saarbrücken.

Relationship of church and state

In a speech on 13 October 2009 the Bavarian state parliament in Munich, he argued that the practice of religion was not a private matter. The practice of religion is a public matter because religion would contribute to the foundations of the state and society. The idea of positive neutrality of the state towards religion assume that the secular rule of law itself can not justify by itself, but is dependent on other source of meaning. Ideological neutrality of the state would not include a value-neutrality of the state.

Homosexuality

In 2011, Marx participated in the discussion forum of the Catholic Church in Mannheim part and named according to the Protestant press as a focus for change in the Catholic Church dealing with "failed and broken people, for which he counted among other divorcees and homosexuals ." For this he was criticized by the Lesbian and Gay Federation and at the same time invited to a correction or apology, because the statements " insulting and derogatory " are. The FDP demanded a clarification of Marx. In a response to criticism Marx said that he was like his comments had been shown " very unhappy ". One can " really does not say that homosexuals - or divorced -. Failed people would be " In another opinion Marx said that the Church had in dealing with the issue of homosexuality "is not always the right tone made," and called for an open the church with the two above-mentioned groups.

Sunday as a cultural

Reinhard Marx, it is an important concern to protect Sunday as a " great heritage", as he makes clear in an ecumenical conversation with Bishop Heinrich Bedford - Strohm.

Mottoes and coats of arms

As Bishop Reinhard Marx chose the motto Ubi spiritus domini ibi libertas ( " Where the Spirit of the Lord ( acts / rules ), there [ is ] freedom " ) from the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians ( 2 Cor 3,17 EU). He writes: " This word (...) I wanted to make it clear that freedom is the essential theme of our faith. (...) In the modern world was the faith even assuming that it is accompanied by a loss of freedom. But the reverse is the case. Freedom is the prerequisite for responsibility and love. (...) "
