Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis

The Rhein- Pfalz-Kreis (until 31 December 2003 County Ludwigshafen) is a district in the south-east of Rhineland -Palatinate in the Rhine -Neckar.

Geographical Location

The Rhein- Pfalz-Kreis is located in the Rhine Graben ( Upper Rhine Valley ).

Neighboring districts

Due to its location within the metropolitan Rhine-Neckar region with many neighboring urban districts and the adjacent location on the Rhine, Rhein-Pfalz -Kreis is surrounded by many local authorities, which also belong to three provinces.

Within the federal state of Rhineland -Palatinate borders the county to the following authorities ( clockwise from the north): district-free city of Worms, City Frankenthal (Pfalz ) district-free city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein district-free city Speyer district of Germersheim district of Southern Wine Road district of Bad Durkheim

Separated by the course of the Rhine is bordered to the north by the Hessian circle mountain road. To the south it borders then, ordered from north to south, the district-free city of Mannheim, Rhein- Neckar-Kreis and the district of Karlsruhe in Baden -Württemberg in the district area.

Climate

There is a very mild climate. The average annual precipitation is less than 500 mm. In summer it is often hot and humid, plus there are often strong thunderstorm. In winter the region is poor in snow.

History

In 1886 the district office Ludwigshafen was founded. This founding act was one of the last acts of the Bavarian King Ludwig II As the population had greatly increased around Speyer, a division of the former district office Speyer became necessary. 1920, the city of Ludwigshafen was separated from the district office and was given the status of an immediate town, called in 1935 the city circle. From the district office Ludwigshafen is 1939, the same district tell, which in 1969 increased by the dissolved district Speyer, the eastern part of the also defunct county Frankenthal and the place Rödersheim from the district of Neustadt on the Wine Route, where you Rödersheim with Alsheim -Gronau for local church Rödersheim -Gronau united.

On 19 May 2003 the council decided the county in " Rhein- Pfalz-Kreis " rename. On 27 August 2003, the name change from Mainz Ministry of Interior has been approved. On 18 August 2005, finally, the modification of the license plate was approved. Since 1 September 2005, newly registered vehicles carry the flag RP instead of the previous LU.

Coat of arms

Blazon: In the left diagonally divided by a silver wave beam shield to the upper right in black and a golden, rotbewehrter, border left Lion, bottom left in blue with a silver floating cross, placed a red heart sign with two golden lily pads at twice crossing stems.

The coat of arms was approved on 18 January 1971, changed in color on 28 October 1977. The Palatinate lion stands for the Palatine area of the circle and the cross stands for the territories of the former Bishopric of Speyer. The water-lily leaves symbolize the floodplain south of Ludwigshafen, the wave beams of the Rhine.

Economy

The purchasing power of the county 's population is 16 percent higher than the national average. Only four percent of the gross value added in agriculture still make out, because of the above-average growing conditions but has the circular area over regional importance as a " vegetable garden " of Germany.

Traffic

By the district the federal highways lead 6 (Saarbrücken -Mannheim), 61 ( Speyer -Koblenz ), 65 (Karlsruhe, Ludwigshafen, Germany) and 650 ( Bad Durkheim -Ludwigshafen ). In addition, several federal highways and county roads run through the county territory, including the B9 ( Wörth am Rhein- Kleve ), as well as a waterway of the Rhine.

The area of the circle is also relatively well served by railways. Among other things, there are six S -Bahn stations.

Education

The county is home to the largest Kreisvolkshochschule of Rhineland- Palatinate. There is also a music school, two high schools, a comprehensive school and three secondary schools.

Sports

Among the outstanding sports clubs include the wrestlers from VfK Schiffer city and the weightlifters from AC Mother City.

For the grassroots are four circular pools, lakes and other sports facilities to the Gulf Park Palatinate ( in Limburgerhof ) are available.

Camping

In the floodplains is the 123- hectare largest camping area in Germany. Nearly 5,000 parking spaces for caravans are permanently leased.
