Richard Brodhead

Richard Brodhead (* January 5, 1811 in Lehman Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania, † September 16, 1863 in Easton, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party, representing the state of Pennsylvania in both houses of Congress.

In 1830, Richard Brodhead settled in Easton, the county seat of Northampton County. He studied law there, was admitted to the bar in 1836 and then began to practice in his new profession. From 1837 to 1839 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania; in 1841 he was appointed treasurer of Northampton County.

On March 4, 1843 Brodhead moved as a representative of the 10th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, a House of Representatives in Washington. He was re-elected twice and was during his six -year tenure, among others, Chairman of the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions. In 1848 he joined not again; for he applied two years later by one of the two seats of Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate. After winning election, he belonged to the house of Parliament on 4 March 1851 to 3 March 1857. Here he was at times Chairman of the Committee on Claims.

Six years after his retirement from the Senate Richard Brodhead died in Easton. His son Jefferson was also politicians and represented Pennsylvania from 1907 to 1909 in the U.S. House of Representatives.
