Richard Joseph Hopkins

Richard Joseph Hopkins ( born April 4, 1873 in Jefferson City, Missouri; † August 28, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1911 and 1913 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Kansas; later he became a federal judge.

Career

After studying law at Northwestern University and his 1901 was admitted as a lawyer Richard Hopkins began to work in this profession. Between 1901 and 1906 he practiced in Chicago and then in Garden City. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In 1909 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Kansas.

In 1910, Hopkins was elected at the side of Walter R. Stubbs for lieutenant governor of his state. This post he held between January 9, 1911 to January 13, 1913. Yet he was assistant to the governor. Between 1913 and 1918 he was the legal representative of the City of Garden City; 1919 to 1923 he held the office of Attorney General of Kansas. He then began a career as a judge. From 1923 to 1929 he was an Associate Justice on the Kansas Supreme Court and then a judge at the Federal District Court for the District of Kansas. This office he held until his death on 28 August 1943 in Kansas City.
