Elias S. Stover

Elias Sleeper Stover ( born November 22, 1836 in Rockland, Knox County, Maine; † February 3, 1927 in Albuquerque, New Mexico ) was an American politician. Between 1873 and 1875 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Kansas.

Career

About the school of Elias Stover is not known. First, he drove his father to sea. Since 1858 he lived in the Kansas Territory. During the Civil War he served in a volunteer unit from Kansas, which belonged to the army of the Union. He participated in several battles and brought it up to the captain. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. In 1867 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Kansas; between 1871 and 1872, he sat in the state Senate. During his time in Kansas, he worked as an Indian agent and in the banking industry.

1872 Stover was elected to the side of Thomas A. Osborn for Lieutenant Governor of Kansas. This post he held between January 1873 and January 11, 1875 13. Yet he was assistant to the governor. In 1876 he moved to the New Mexico Territory. Between 1881 and 1883 he held the office of County Commissioner in Bernalillo County and in 1889 he was a delegate to a constitutional convention of its territory. Between 1891 and 1897 he served as the first president of the University of New Mexico. He was also co-founded the First National Bank of Council Grove and the First National Bank of Albuquerque. Stover died on February 3, 1927 in Albuquerque, where he was also buried.
