Bernalillo County, New Mexico
The Bernalillo County is a county located in the state of New Mexico in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Albuquerque.
Geography
Major rivers of the county are the Rio Grande and the Rio Puerco, which flows by the County boundary in the San Juan River. In the county there are four Indian reservations: the Isleta Indian Reservation, the Laguna Indian Reservation, the Canoncito Indian Reservation and the Sandia Indian Reservation. The county has an area of 3027 square kilometers; which 7 square kilometers (0.22 percent) of water. The county is bordered clockwise to the counties: Sandoval County, Santa Fe County, Torrance County, Valencia County and Cibola County.
History
Historical buildings
- In Albuquerque is at number 119 3rd Street SW, the historic Occidental Life Building. Built in 1917 the building was added in 1978 by the National Register of Historic Places.
- Off the Interstate 40 is the historic Rio Puerco Bridge.

According to the census of 2000, there were 556 678 people in the county. There were 220 936 households and 141 178 families. The population density was 184 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 70.75 % White, 2.77 % African American, 4.16 % Native American, 1.93 % Asian, 0.10 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 16.07% from other races groups; 4.22% were descended from two or more races. 41.96 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 220 936 households out of which 31.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 46.00 % were married couples living together, 12.90% had a female householder with no husband. 36.10 % were non-families. 28.50 % of all households and 7.90% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.06.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 25.30 % under the age of 18, 10.30 % from 18 to 24, 30.40% from 25 to 44 years, 22.40 % between 45 and 64 years and 11.50% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 95.50 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.90 males.
The median income for a household was $ 38,788, and the median income for a family was $ 46,613. Males have a median income of $ 33,720, women $ 26,318. The per capita income was $ 20,790. 13.70% of the population and 10.20% of families are below the poverty line. 17.90% of those under age 18 and 9.10% were 65 years or older.
