Taos County, New Mexico
The Taos County is a county in the north of the state of New Mexico in the United States. The County has 29 979 inhabitants. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Taos.
Geography
The County is located in northern New Mexico, bordered on the north Colorado and has an area of 5710 square kilometers; of which 4 square kilometers of water. The highest point of the county and the entire state is the Wheeler Peak with 4011 m. It is bordered clockwise to the County: Costilla County (Colorado), Colfax County ( New Mexico), Mora County, Rio Arriba County and Conejos County ( Colorado).

According to the census of 2000, there were 29 979 people in the county. There were 12,675 households, and 7,757 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 63.77 % White, 0.35 % African American, 6.59 % Native American, 0.38 % Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander residents from the and 24.84 % from other races groups; 3.95% were descended from two or more races. 57.94 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,675 households out of which 29.90 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 42.70 % were married couples living together, 12.70% had a female householder with no husband. 38.80 % were non-families. 32.10 % of all households were individuals and 8.90 % had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.98.
Based on the county the population was spread from 24.50 % under the age of 18, 6.90 % from 18 to 24, 27.40% from 25 to 44 years, 28.80% between 45 and 64 years and 12.30% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.20 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.70 males.
The median income for a household was $ 26,762, and the median income for a family was $ 33,995. Males have a median income of $ 27,310, women $ 21,121. The per capita income was $ 16,103. 20.90% of the population and 16.10% of families are below the poverty line. 24.60 % of those under age 18 and 20.80% were 65 years or older.
