Los Alamos County, New Mexico
Los Alamos County is a county located in the state of New Mexico in the United States. The only city in the county and the county seat ( county seat ) is Los Alamos.
Geography
With an area of 283 square kilometers, the County is the smallest in the state. At the County borders the Santa Clara Indian Reservation, the San Ildefonson Indian Reservation and the Bandelier National Monument. The county is bordered clockwise to the counties: Rio Arriba County, Santa Fe County and Sandoval County.

According to the census of 2000, there were 18,343 people in the county. There were 7,497 households and 5,337 families. The population density was 65 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.26 % White, 0.37 % African American, 0.58 % Native American, 3.78 % Asian, 0.03 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 2.70 % from other races groups; 2.28% were descended from two or more races. 11.75% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,497 households out of which 33.50 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.70 % were married couples living together, 5.70 % had a female householder with no husband. 28.80% were non-families. 24.90% of all households and 6.70% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.92.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 25.80 % under the age of 18, 4.40 % from 18 to 24, 27.70% from 25 to 44 years, 30.00% between 45 and 64 years and 12.10% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 101.40 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.70 males.
The median income for a household was $ 78,993, and the median income for a family was $ 90,032. Males have a median income of $ 70,063, women $ 40,246. The per capita income was $ 34,646. 2.90% of the population and 1.90 % of families are below the poverty line. 1.80 % of those under age 18 and 4.70% were 65 years or older.
