Hidalgo County is a county located in the state of New Mexico in the United States. Here 4,894 people live. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lordsburg.
Geography
The county has an area of 8,925 square kilometers; which is 1 square kilometers of water. The county is bordered clockwise to the County: Grant County, Luna County, Chihuahua ( state, Mexico), Sonora (State, Mexico), Cochise County ( Arizona) and Greenlee County ( Arizona).

According to the census of 2000, there were 5,932 people in the county. There were 2,152 households and 1,542 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.78 % White, 0.40 % African American, 0.78 % Native American, 0.32 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 11.85% from other races groups; 2.87% were descended from two or more races. 56.04 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,152 households out of which 37.50 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.80 % were married couples living together, 13.60% had a female householder with no husband. 28.30% were non-families. 25.30 % of all households and 10.70% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.29 persons.
