Cochise County, Arizona

Cochise County is a county located in the state of Arizona in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is in Bisbee.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme southeastern Arizona, to the east by New Mexico, on the south by Mexico and has an area of 16,107 square kilometers, of which 127 square kilometers of water.

History

The name of the county goes to Cochise, one of the most famous leader of the Chiricahua Apaches during the Indian wars of the 19th century, who lived in the area and died in 1874.

According to the census of 2000, there were 117 755 people in Cochise County. There were 43 893 households, and 30,768 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.66 % White, 4.52 % African American, 1.15 % Native American, 1.65 % Asian, 0.26 % Pacific Islander residents of the 12.05 % from other races groups; 3.72% were descended from two or more races. 30.69 % percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 43 893 households out of which 32.00 % percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 55.10 % percent were married couples living together, 11.10% percent were single mothers, 29.90 % percent were non-families. 25.30 % of all households and 10.10% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.07.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 26.30 % under the age of 18, 9.30 % from 18 to 24, 26.00% from 25 to 44 years, 23.70 % between 45 and 64 years and 14.70% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 101.60 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.20 males.

The median income for a household was $ 32,105, and the median income for a family was $ 38,005. Males have a median income of $ 30,533, women $ 22,252. The per capita income was $ 15,988. 17.70 % of the population and 13.50 % of families are below the poverty line. 25.80% of them are under age 18 and 10.40 % are 65 years or older.
