Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu

The Archdiocese of Kisumu (Latin: Archidioecesis Kisumuensis ) is a location in Kenya Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Kisumu.

History

The Archdiocese of Kisumu was born on July 15, 1925 by Pope Pius XI. built with the Apostolic Constitution Ut aucto of annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Upper Nile as Apostolic Prefecture of Kavirondo. On May 27, 1932, the Apostolic Prefecture of Kavirondo was by Pius XI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Cum non sine Apostolic Vicariate Apostolic Vicariate and renamed Kisumu.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Kisumu was born on March 25, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. applicable to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Nairobi is a suffragan. On June 29, 1953, the Diocese of Kisumu were from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Eldoret. Other annexations took place on October 20, 1959 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Ngong, on 21 May 1960 for the founding of the Diocese of Kisii, on 11 January 1968 on the establishment of the Diocese of Nakuru and on 27 February 1978 on the establishment of the diocese of Kakamega.

On 21 May 1990, the Diocese of Kisumu by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Si quidem secundum was raised to an archbishopric.
