Even before the synod of the diocese of Aghadoe Rathbreasail 1111 was incorporated, so that the diocese extended over the whole County Kerry. Therefore, it is since 1152, since the Synod of Kells, Kerry called the diocese and the Archdiocese of Cashel is a suffragan. As in 1536, the diocese of the English Reformation was carried out by the appointment of an Anglican bishop, changed only two priests from the Roman Catholic Church. 1661 the Anglican Diocese of Ardfert was united to the diocese of Limerick. The Roman Catholic jurisdiction was transferred to the diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe Kerry about the same time. On 20 December 1952, the Diocese of Kerry was (o Ardfert ) and renamed in Aghadoe Diocese of Kerry.
