Roșia de Secaș

Roşia de secas (deprecated Roşia; German Rothkirch, Hungarian Székásveresegyháza ) is a town in Alba county in Transylvania, Romania.

The place is also known under the antiquated Romanian name Roşie de secas, the German and the Hungarian Rothenkirchen Szászveresegyháza, Székesegyház and Veresegyháza.

Geographical location

The community Roşia de secas located in the southeast of Alba County, Riverfront SECAS - a left tributary of the Kokel - in the east of Zekesch highlands ( Podişul Secaşelor ) in the southwest of the Transylvanian Basin. ( Judetean drum ) at the intersection of county roads and DJ DJ 107B 106L, the place 22 km from the nearest major city Blaj ( Blasendorf ) is removed. The county capital Alba Julia ( Charles Castle ) is located 54 kilometers ( about Sebes ) west of Roşia de secas away.

History

According to reports from M. Roska archaeological finds from the Late Bronze Age have been made in the area of the village.

The place Roşia de secas, originally a Transylvanian Saxon Nationals Village was ( according to different data) for the first time in 1266 or 1306 documented under the name Veresegyhaz. Since the 16th century it is also inhabited by Romanians.

The main occupation of the population is agriculture and animal husbandry.

The highest population of the church today - and at the same time the Romanians - in 1941 determined. The highest number of Hungary in 1900 was that the Germans in 1941 (939 of them in eingemeindeten village Ungurei ) detected and the Roma (222 ) 1956. In Ungurei a Ukrainian registered in 1890.

In eingemeindeten village Ungurei ( Gerg Eschendorf ) lived since the census from 1850 to 1941 only about half as many Romanians as German. Since the mass emigration of the Saxons of Transylvania from 1990 also living here almost all Romanians and 15 % Roma.

Attractions

  • The Romanian Orthodox Church, Sf. Nicolae, built in 1903, rebuilt in 2004.
  • The wooden church Sf. Gheorghe in eingemeindeten village Tau ( Weier village), built in 1780 and rebuilt in 1820, is a listed building.

Personalities

  • Nicolae Pauletti (1816-1848), priest, poet and translator, born in Roşia de secas.
