Roxförde is a town and a district of the Hanseatic City Guard Insert in the Altmark Salzwedel in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geography

Roxförde is located about twelve kilometers east of Calvörde in Colbitz - Letzlinger heath and around ten kilometers south of the Gardelegener Old Town.

History

Presumably, the town was founded in the 8th century. In 1986, the 1200th anniversary Roxfördes took place.

On 1 January 1974 Roxförde was incorporated into Wannefeld. As of July 1, 1989 Roxförde was again independently by the spin-off from Wannefeld. Due to a change in the contract area, the municipal council of the municipality Roxförde decided on 12 May 2009 that the church Roxförde is incorporated in the Hanseatic city Gardelegen. This agreement was approved by the county as a lower municipal supervisory authority and entered into force on 1 January 2010.

After incorporation of the previously autonomous municipality Roxförde is Roxförde district of the Hanseatic city Gardelegen. For powered finished my community the village constitution according to § § 86 et seq of the Municipal Code of Saxony- Anhalt is introduced. The municipality is my finished Roxförde and future district Roxförde is the village of receiving Hanseatic City Guard Set. In the eingemeindeten community and nunmehrigen village Roxförde a Ortschaftsrat is formed with eight members, including mayor.

In 1986 has been designed on the occasion of the 1200th anniversary of the community in self- test, a coat of arms image but had to be revised in shield shape, coat of arms graphics and tincture. Because of this coat of arms image had already been established, it was decision of the Municipal Council, that the symbols is incorporated into heraldic correct type into the new coat of arms. Oak and boars were elected by the community, because they are characteristic of fauna and flora of the region to this day.

The coat of arms was designed in 1996 by the Magdeburg Kommunalheraldiker Jörg Mantzsch.

Attractions

Worth seeing is the brick church of the village with the oldest bell in Saxony-Anhalt. Its tower was renovated in 2008.

Personalities

The later Chief of Navy, Ansgar Bethge was born in Roxförde.

Public life

Roxförde has a volunteer fire department, which for years with three teams (men, women and youth) successfully and regularly participate in fire brigade competitions.

An annual spectacle also represents the first weekend takes place in the New Year sausage Singing

Memorial

In addition to the local cemetery, a memorial complex was set up for the buried in a mass grave 23 concentration camp prisoners who were shot in April 1945 during a death march from the camp Long -Zwieberge, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp, from a Wehrmacht patrol.
