Ryan Brathwaite

Ryan Brathwaite ( born June 6, 1988 in Bridgetown ) is a track and field athlete from Barbados who specializes in the 110- meter hurdles. He was world champion in 2009.

He was at the Youth World Championships 2005 Vice World Champion. At the World Athletics Championships in Osaka in 2007 and at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he reached the semi-finals respectively.

He had his international breakthrough at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in 2009, when he became world champion in the 110- meter hurdles. He presented with 13.14 s on a new personal best and beat the Americans Terrence Trammell and David Payne on the second and third place by only one hundredth of a second. At the same Brathwaite became the first athletes in history, who won a medal for Barbados in the World Championships.

At the 2011 World Championships Brathwaite already retired from the lead. In 2012 he finished fifth at the Olympic Games in London.
